Building an iphone application

Hello everyone,

Would you like a Pollen iphone application? The application would be similar to our Pollen widgets found at pollenwidgets.com and would make accessing the pollen alert without a computer possible! We would like to know what smart phone you are using and what features of Pollen.com you would like on your phone. Please comment below.

Gravatar Great idea to put on the iphone. One thing that would be great is to also give list of pollen seasons for different areas. Ex. Weeds are more prevalent during the months of Jun/Nov in California where as Grasses are Mar-Dec. You could also make it so that each person can identify what there triggers are so that the iphone app gives them personalized information. If someone is only allergic to grass and not trees, they don't need to know about the trees. Good luck.

Gravatar I live in the DFW area and have a lot of ragweed and ceader related allergies. I would like to see an application for the new I phone I purchased in July of 2008. I would like to see the 2 day alert option of pending hi levels. As well as the 4 day forcast by iphone gps location or zip code.
Thanks,
G Goldston

Gravatar Yes, if I could enter my travel zip codes (similar to weather channel's iphone app) I would use it when I am planning a trip....

Gravatar No exotic phone yet (due to low income and prefer to be a 2nd...or later.. generation adopter of new tech due to that and other reasons) but info available in all posssible formats will help.

At this point, text messages of RAPIDLY changing conditions MIGHT help.

Thank You.

Gravatar That'd be great! You know what else would be cool? A review of different allergy products / services. There are products that are supposed to block pollen before it enters the nose, there is acupuncture and of course all those different medications.

Austin was so bad the other day I was sure that my sinuses were just going to explode. That would have been a icky mess. Thank goodness they didn't.

Gravatar That whould be great. For now, there is only a web-app (you need to use Safari) for pollen counts for iPhone, which is not really useful. Please keep me posted.
thanks,

#  list of pollen seasons for different areas
Gravatar I don't have an I-phone, but I agree with Ryan (11-21-2008)about listing specific pollen "seasons" for different areas. I live in south central Louisiana. I know I am allergic to grasses from allergy testing, but as you know, once a person becomes allergic to certain pollens, they can develop allergic reactions to other pollens. I have discovered that I am allergic to cedar. A few years ago, I developed a sinus infection from reaction to a certain cedar tree in north Texas! that was pollinating heavily due to conditions that winter for that area. The northwest winds carried it down here and boy did I get sick! I found out by searching various websites and pieced it together. Anyway, I strongly agree for the need of a list of pollens per area per season. (I think you already have that in the form of the national map, which helps alot. This I can check on your website.) But for I-phone users, it would be a big plus.

Thanks,
Susan D.

Gravatar I would highly agree with the comments already posted. The ability to select specific allergies or locations and have an alert function when they are at high levels would be remarkable! Good luck and please keep me posted!

Gravatar There is already one iphone application called "Pollen". It is pretty nice, let's you track how you feel each day so you can run reports to see what days you felt better or worse. You can set your zipcode in it to tune it to your local area pollen report.

It would be nice though to have more than that, like a breakdown of how much of each of the pollens. For example, today it is Cedar, Elm and Adler. Some days I feel better than others even though the index is the same. I wonder if on those worse days, for example, the Elm element itself represents more of the pollen, etc.

Gravatar Just discovered the new blog..searching for info on cedar fever..big big in most areas of Texas...It's one allergy that can be wicked..Would like to see a breakdown of the different allergies affecting different areas. I'm new to the site...so maybe it's already here and I haven't searched the site thoroughly as yet.
THX for adding the blog segment.

Gravatar Pollen and mold. A big plus if we can add symptoms (sinus problems, headaches, etc.) to the day as a record. I have this on other apps in the form of small icons that get added to the day's calendar for tracking.

Gravatar It would be huge. I'm already feeling it, and wondering what the counts are daily (as well as a history of what last years count was... i'd love to be able to see that oak was worst from X to Y, so I know when to get myself to my doc)

Gravatar Would love to see an iPhone app that would show the current pollen count on the icon (similar to # of new mail items available) to see the count at a glance without even opening the app. Then, when opening the app (clicking on the icon), give the details (current pollen count, forecast for the next 4-7 days, types of pollen, etc).

Gravatar I'd love an iPhone/Pod pollen app! I've been wanting that or an OSX widget forever. All I need is the zip code entry, levels and what the predominant pollens are. I'm simple. :)
